Industries and Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao today inaugurated a treatment plant for building waste at Fathullaguda near Nagole in the LB Nagar segment here.

Along with Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Chairman and LB Nagar MLA Sudheer Reddy and officials, the minister started the plant to address building debris and pollution problems in the area.

With a comprehensive plan we can reuse and recycle such debris and waste of buildings and domestic waste, he stated. Such plants are rare in the country with one each at Delhi and Ahmedabad and Telangana gets a second plant, he said adding that one more will be operational in another six months.

KTR said that a 20 MW power plant was started by using waste and a 28 MW plant will be coming up soon. He appealed to people to cooperate by calling a toll-free number 1800-120-1159 by paying a nominal fee to dispose of waste. Daily we get about 7000 metric tons of building waste and we need to shift it to reuse in a scientific approach, he asserted.

We are taking steps to produce power from dry waste and manufacture fertilizers using wet waste, the minister said. He sought the cooperation of local people, builders, and those in construction activities to address these issues.
