Lawsuit Filed Against Hyderabad Private School Over Alleged Discrimination Against Muslim Students’ Hijab

A lawsuit has been filed in Hyderabad against the management of a private school in Hayathnagar over allegations that the principal and teachers told two Muslim girl pupils in the tenth grade not to wear hijab in class.

The two Muslim students are students at Zed School in Hayathnagar. They had been wearing headscarves and going to school since the start of the school year on June 12. According to the complaint, the principal and a teacher repeatedly asked the students not to wear headscarves in the classroom.

The Hayathnagar police have charged the principal, Poornima Srivastav, and instructor Madhuri Kavita with violating Sections 153A, 295, and 292 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police are currently conducting an investigation.
