‘Mahatma’s soul must be paining due to BJP, TRS misrule’

Hyderabad: TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy today expressed deep concern over the BJP and TRS regimes not following the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi of truth, peace and secularism. Uttam said the BJP has no moral right to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. On one side the BJP takes out Sankalp Yatra to express its love for Gandhiji, on the other its leaders praise Nathuram Godse, who shot Mahatma Gandhi as a true patriot. He also condemned the BJP for trying to extract political gain out of Mahatma Gandhi while ignoring his ideals and teachings.

Speaking on the occasion of 72nd Martyrdom Day of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Bhavan here on Thursday, Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the BJP and MIM were having a secret understanding in the State to gain political mileage by dividing people on communal lines. He said the violent incidents and the election results of Bhainsa Municipality were a clear example of how these parties were making political gains by creating communal divide among people.

Stating that the TRS was a part of the secret alliance between BJP and MIM and the TRS was having an understanding with the BJP at the Centre and sailing with the MIM in the State, the TPCC  president said the TRS-BJP-MIM trio was cheating the people to extract political benefits. He pointed out that the TRS had supported all the decisions of Modi Government like demonetization, GST and its MPs voted in favour of BJP candidates in the election of President of India, Vice President, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Article 370 issue, Triple Talaq and other bills.

Accusing the TRS of winning elections by distributing money and liquor to voters, he said the undemocratic practices of TRS leaders were posing threat to the independent functioning of legislature, executive, judiciary and media. He stressed the need to launch a movement to restore democracy in Telangana, he said. He also said the role played by State Election Commission in the recent municipal elections was highly objectionable, condemnable and questionable. He said the SEC acted in a partisan manner to favor TRS in the election of Chairman/Vice Chairman of Nereducherla municipality.

Paying rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Uttam said the Congress was following his teachings and ideals to bring justice and equality for all sections of the society. He also recalled the role played by Mahatma Gandhi in the freedom movement using his weapons of ‘Satya’ and ‘Ahimsa’ (Peace & Non-Violence). He said Mahatma’s teachings still inspire the entire world and it would continue to do so forever.
