A man from Tolichowki, Manzoor Ahmed, has been booked for allegedly divorcing his wife over the phone by saying ‘talaq’ thrice, a practice declared void by the Supreme Court. The incident took place in Shamshabad, prompting legal action against him.
The RGIA police registered a case following a complaint by his 27-year-old wife, a resident of Shamshabad. According to her complaint, she and Manzoor had a love marriage in 2009 and initially shared a happy life. However, over time, her husband allegedly became close to another woman, raising suspicions of an extramarital affair.
Upon confronting her husband about the matter, an argument ensued, leading the woman to leave their home and stay with her parents. On Tuesday, Manzoor allegedly called her and pronounced ‘talaq’ thrice over the phone, an act that has been outlawed in India.

This incident has once again highlighted the ongoing struggle against illegal triple talaq practices despite the Supreme Court’s ruling.
Authorities have urged affected women to come forward and report such incidents to ensure justice is served.
