Mayor inaugurates Bio-Methanenization gas plant at Chandanagar

Hyderabad : The GHMC has a proposal that every garbage generator of over 25 kg is to set up a compost, bio-methane gas plant at their own place, said Mayor Dr Bonthu Rammohan here today.

Inaugurating the city’s first Bio-Methanenization gas plant at Transfer station in Chandanagar, Serilingampally today, along with MLA Arkepudi Gandhi, the Mayor recalled that the Central Government issued guidelines that every establishment which produces more than 25kg garbage has to set up a separate Compost and Bio gas unit.

Under Corporate Social Responsibility, HAL has funded Rs 24.76 lakh towards the cost of the plant. The Mayor said that some 5,000 MT of garbage was being generated every day in the city of out which about 40% of garbage was feasible for compost and Bio Gas generation. “If every bulk garbage generator sets up these plants, the overload of garbage on transfer station and the problem of shifting garbage by GHMC ease. The plant be upgraded to CNG so that the gas is supplied to autos”, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Arekepudi Gandhi said under Swachh Bharath and Swachh Hyderabad if every citizen separates the wet and dry waste at source, the City will be more hygienic and neat. Zonal Commissioner Hari Chandana, IAS, said the generation capacity will be upgraded to 10 MT in due course and 80 cubic meter of Bio gas is generated from one metric ton of garbage.

HAL General Manager Rajiv Kumar said as part of Swachh Bharath Mission program under CSR, the HAL released the funds. Corporator Bobba Navatha Reddy  and other senior officials of GHMC participated in the program.
