Media Reports Alleging ‘Vaccination Fraud’ are Misleading and Baseless: Centre

According to the Union Health Ministry, some international media reports alleging “vaccination fraud” and further claiming that people are being fraudulently registered as double vaccinated without having received both doses are completely ill-informed and misleading.

There have been a few media reports in international media claiming a ‘vaccination fraud,’ and that the public is being falsely registered as having received both doses of a vaccine. According to these reports, the vaccination ‘figures were being manipulated.’ It is clarified that such media reports are not only misleading but also completely ill-informed and lack any basis, according to a statement issued by the ministry.

As per the ministry, India’s nationwide Covid vaccination drive is supported by a strong technological backup provided by the Co-WIN digital platform, which has performed brilliantly over the last more than a year of the Covid vaccination drive. This digital platform contains a record of all Covid vaccinations.

The system of Co-WIN is an inclusive system/platform that was created with the difficulties and constraints of Internet and mobile availability in mind across the country. Co-WIN incorporates necessary features and flexibility to ensure that every eligible individual has access to vaccination, regardless of physical, digital, or socioeconomic barriers to access, according to the ministry’s statement.

The ministry clarified that the beneficiaries have been given the authority to make necessary corrections to their Co-WIN records. Aside from changes in basic demographic details such as name, age, gender, and photo ID, the “Raise an issue” module in the beneficiary dashboard allows beneficiaries to make corrections.

The ministry said in response to the reports that despite its very large populace, India has successfully administered its nationwide Covid vaccination programme and distributed more than 167 crore doses to date, covering more than 76% of the eligible population above the age of 18 with both doses.
