Miyawaki Plantation at UoH Campus

Hyderabad: United way of Hyderabad,  in coordination with CGI Company, today inaugurated the first-ever Miyawaki Plantation Drive at the University of Hyderabad(UoH), Old nursery.

Miyawaki is a technique pioneered by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, that helps build dense, native forests. The approach is supposed to ensure that plant growth is 10 times faster and the resulting plantation is 30 times denser than usual. It involves planting dozens of native species in the same area and becomes maintenance-free after the first three years.

Prof. Arun Agarwal, Pro-Vice-Chancellor 1, UoH, Rekha Srinivasan, CEO United Way of Hyderabad, Kiran, Vaikoo and Jyothi, Vice President of CGI, participated in the plantation drive. Prof. Arun Agarwal appreciated the initiative taken by United Way of Hyderabad for green campus and other initiatives like clean air program which is the need of the hour.

Over 100 volunteers from CGI, which is a leading software Company having over 3,000 employees actively participated in plantation drive and planted saplings. It was revealed by Rekha Srinivasan that the United Way and CGI are planning to plant 4000 saplings  at the University of Hyderabad and grow them as quick forests. United Way is an international NGO that promotes environmental sustainability.
