MLC polls: Six TRS candidates elected. Other to retain position

While six TRS candidates declared unanimously elected even before the last date of filing nominations concludes, two others from Rangareddy district filed their nominations on Monday to contest MLC polls and are likely to be elected unopposed.

All the six candidates that are declared elected unopposed are Kadiyam Srihari, Gutha Sukender Reddy, Padi Kaushik Reddy, Banda Prakash Mudiraj, P.Venkatrami Reddy and Takkalapalli Ravinder Rao.

As there were no other candidates in the fray, the returning officer handed over the winning certificates to the TRS candidates after consulting the Election Commissioner.

Meanwhile, in a less fervent show of strength, the TRS party candidates in Rangareddy district file their nominations just one day ahead of a last date for filing of nominations to contest MLC polls scheduled to be held on December 10. TRS candidates such as Patnam Mahender Reddy and Shambipur Raju submitted their nominations to Returning Officer & District Collector Amoy Kumar on Monday. Earlier, Minister Sabita Indra Reddy and Mallareddy handed B-Forms to the TRS candidates.  It appeared that both the TRS candidates were likely to be elected unopposed as no candidate holds the weight to contest against them. As only representatives of local bodies have a right to franchise their vote in favour of their favorite candidate, the TRS candidates may get re-elected unanimously since the majority of electors represent the TRS party.

It is pertinent to mention here that, by-polls became inevitable in Rangareddy as the term of two sitting MLCs such as Patnam Mahender Reddy and Shambipur Raju is going to end on January 4, 2022.

The state election commission has recently announced by-elections for 12 MLC seats of 9 local bodies in the state. The districts where the elections were declared include Rangareddy, Adilabad, Warangal, Nalgonda, Medak, Nizamabad, Khamam, Karimnagar and Mahabubnagar districts.

Out of 9 local bodies only Rangareddy, Mahabubnagar and Karimnagar are the districts where the polling is going to be held on two MLC seats each while the other 6 local bodies have to vote for one seat each.

As against the traditional hustle-bustle during the elections time, no such fervent mood was seen in the party rant and file as filing the nominations by the TRS party candidates turned out as a low key affair as only senior leaders walked together with the candidates to nomination centre before shaking off.

Minister for Education P.Sabitha Indra Reddy, MLA Vikarabad Dr. Methuku Anana, MLA Rajendranagar T.Prakash Goud besides few other leaders turned out for the event directly to Collector Office Rangareddy.

Since the last date of filing nomination would end on November 23, the scrutiny of nominations would be done on November 24 while the candidate can withdraw their nominations by November 26. Polling would be held on December 10 while the counting of votes would be done on December 14 before declaring the result.
