Mohammed Rizwan Dedicates World-Record Cricket Victory to Gaza

Following Pakistan’s world-record chase against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad, wicket-keeper batter Mohammed Rizwan dedicated his team’s extraordinary World Cup victory to “brothers and sisters in Gaza.”

On Tuesday, Rizwan, who struck an undefeated 131, and Abdullah Shafique, who scored 113, guided Pakistan to a world-record chase of 345 against Sri Lanka. Their 176-run third-wicket stand aided Pakistan’s historic triumph in 48.2 overs, marking the most successful World Cup run-chase in World Cup history.

Ireland held the previous record for the greatest run chase in ODI World Cups when they successfully chased down 329 against England during the 2011 World Cup in India.

Rizwan turned to social media to convey his love to Gaza, writing, “This was for our brothers and sisters in Gaza.” I’m delighted to have contributed to the victory. Thanks to the entire crew, especially Abdullah Shafique and Hassan Ali, for making things simpler. “I am eternally grateful to the people of Hyderabad for their incredible hospitality and support throughout.”

Gaza has a history of conflict, notably with Israel, and has seen severe bloodshed. Rizwan’s commitment to the people of Gaza following their stunning cricket triumph sends a message of togetherness and support.
