Moon to have its own 4G network!

Gone are the days when you’d have to stop yourself from going to the moon because there is no internet network connectivity present. Fret not, as Nokia has come to the rescue!

NASA has selected Nokia out of the many service providers to launch the moon first cellular network. The Finnish origin company stated the news on Monday as the outer space agency established in the US has big plans of creating a normal life for humans on the moon as well in the future.

Along with that, NASA said that it intends to bring humans back to the moon by 2024, aka astronauts, and prolong their duration of stay over there. Their Artemis program is directed entirely on humans and their long-term occupation on the moon, leading a life similar to that on planet Earth.

The company popular for making mobile phones in India has said that its first wireless telecommunication system in the outer space will reach the moon and be ready to use by the latter half of 2022, far before humans arrive for settlement.

Intuitive Machines, a Texas-based private company that works on designing space crafts, will be collaborating with Nokia to help the broadband service equipment to land on the lunar region. The network would then self-configure, set up itself, and create a 4G/LTE communications system. It also said that the company ultimately wishes to establish a 5G network up there.

According to Nokia, the establishment of the network on the lunar land can be of utmost help to the astronauts as audio and video calls, including texts, telemetry, biometric analysis, and the use of remote-controlled lunar rovers and the rest of the robotic machines, can be done with ease.

As the weather conditions are very different from those on planet Earth, Nokia said that it will ensure that the network is designed in such a way that it can tolerate the extremities during the launch and landing of the lunar lander that carries the network equipment.

Furthermore, due to the limitations present regarding the weight, dimensions, and power of any commodity to be sent up in space, the network and the devices involved will have to be made in the most compact form.

As 4G/LTE has been a tried and tested means of telecommunication provision on Earth since the past decade, adding to this its reliability and stability, according to the company, the same will be used on the moon for now. However, it can still switch to 5G in the future, it said. Nokia would also “pursue space applications of LTE’s successor technology, 5G”.

With the world inching towards making human life on Earth more difficult with each passing day, many expect life on the Moon to be the alternative to live on Earth. Cutting down of trees for clearing land for building concrete housing provisions, emission of greenhouse gases in hazardous amounts each day, exhausting natural resources and killing wild animals making many extinct is adding up, while the same is proving its ill effects in different forms every day, making human life on Earth more dangerous.
