More Rain Likely in Hyderabad as City Wakes to Heavy Downpour

In the early hours of Monday, Hyderabad was hit by heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, catching many residents by surprise. The downpour began at around 4:00 am, causing significant water accumulation in various parts of the city.

According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TDPS), Sardarmahal in the Malakpet circle received the highest rainfall at 59.3 mm, while nearby Charminar’s Rooplal Bazar recorded 58.0 mm. Other localities like Mekalmandi and Rein Bazar saw over 50 mm of rainfall, adding to the city’s drenched state.

The TDPS has warned that Hyderabad is likely to experience continuous rainfall throughout the day. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been put on high alert to tackle any potential flooding, waterlogging, and tree falls. Emergency teams have been deployed to monitor low-lying areas and provide swift responses to any rain-related disruptions.

Monday’s intense weather comes at a time when the city has been grappling with intermittent rainfall over the past few weeks. As more rain is forecasted, the GHMC is urging residents to stay indoors if possible and avoid waterlogged areas. The public has also been advised to stay updated through official channels and report any emergencies to the authorities.

With the heavy rainfall expected to persist, Hyderabad may face more disruptions, especially in areas prone to flooding. However, the GHMC is equipped to handle the situation and ensure that normalcy is restored as swiftly as possible.
