More Than 100 Academicians Write to Prime Minister, Supporting NEET-JEE

Academicians and professors from Delhi University, JNU, Central University of Kerala and many more have taken the initiative to write to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, in support of the conduct of JEE-NEET exams hoping that the students will not have to give up their year.

This move is lead by a team of worried academicians, who don’t want the students to waste their academic year.

They wrote: “We, the members of academic fraternity fully support the government decision to conduct JEE and NEET exams”.

They believe that under the Prime Minister competent leadership, JEE and NEET exams can be held successfully with all the necessary precautions to make sure that the student’s future is taken care of and the 2020-21 academic calendar is published.

They admitted that they will “wholeheartedly welcome” the government’s gesture.

Just like every time, an Uncountable number of students passed their class 12th examinations and now they are eagerly waiting to take their next step.

Other students have been vocally contradicting the choice to lead the NEET and JEE placement tests for admission to medical and engineering courses amidst the pandemic. Candidates have additionally expressed worries about issues, for example, about the absence of transportation and inescapable swarming if the tests are not delayed.

Moreover, floods have affected a few states in Indiawhich have additionally affected transport and travel in different sections of India.

This issue is been tackled from two perspectives. On one side, many have argued that the possibility of not holding the tests will result in students having a zero-academic year. On the opposite side, people with opposing views have argued that holding exams amidst the COVID-19 pandemic is very dangerous, which is why they want it to be postponed.

This issue has also gotten political attention with opposition leaders taking jabs at the Central government. Previous Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader, Siddaramaiah has reprimanded the decision of BJP for forcing students into taking the test regardless of the obvious opposition to the move from practically all quarters.

Still, even as the Opposition to the holding of cross-country NEET and JEE tests goes all out, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has tried to defend the move, explaining that a larger part of students, in fact, need the test on the given date.

JEE-Main was initially assumed to be conducted from April 7-11, but, delayed to July 18-23, NEET-UG was originally intended to be held on May 3, at that point pushed to July 26.

By now, the exams have already been postponed twice, and it is still uncertain if they will be held on the upcoming date, as it has already been speculated that the tests will be pushed back again.
