Move to lease out Wakf buildings to TMREIS draw flak from opposition

The decision of Telangana State Wakf Board (TSWB) to lease out its buildings for setting up of Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions (TMREIS) institutions is drawing flak from different corners especially the opposition parties.

Questioning the move to lease out Wakf Board buildings for sitting up of TEMRIS institutions, the AIMIM Inquilab party asked, “If the TRS government bereft of its lands, infrastructure and building that forcing it to keep on luring at Wakf properties that were already surviving on paltry rents and trifling revenue.”

Lashing out the Telangana State Wakf Board for leasing out about 80 acres of wakf land to have 30 institutions run by Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS), Moulana Syed Taraq Quadri, the President of All india Majlis Inquilaab-e-Millat (AIMIM), said, “The move is completely in contrivance of the Waqf Act that was solely weaved to serve the interests of poor Muslim families of the community. It appears that the TSWB has lost the autonomy and acting subservient to the government dictates.”

Taking a pot shot at TRS Government, the AIMIM (Inquilab) President said, “Instead of extending patronage directly to the minority community in the state, the government finds a way to shower its indulgent through utilising the properties own by the Muslim community itself.”

“In the name of protecting the Waqf lands from the clutches of grabbers, the government finds a better way to take control over the Wakf properties without inviting any suspicion while keeping the record room already locked ever since 2017. The Government is distributing the land among landless poor of the other community while taking the control over wakf properties – meant for the welfare of Muslims, to establish institutions for the poor students of all Minority communities,” he contended.

“TMREIS is a flagship program of KCR Government and not the TSWB,” he said adding that “If the government want them to run in wakf board buildings, then it should pay the rent according to the area demand instead of getting them on throw away rent as the prevailing trend is in play.”

Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions (TMREIS) is a much argued over flagship program of KCR Government. A total 204 Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions, accommodating schools as well as junior colleges have been formed in the state out of which 185 are running in private buildings on rental basis.

According to sources, the ratio of teaching staff in TMREIS institutions stood at 90:10 with 90 percent teachers are from other communities while Muslims tutors account for only 10 percent. Only the non-teaching category somewhat have a presence of Muslims with most of them working as  Wardens, Data Entry Operators, Cooks, helpers, security guards, housekeeping staff and Plumber-cum-Electricians, all of them on a paltry payment in the name of salaries.
