Muslim-centric parties in UP to launch campaigns against madrasa survey

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Peace Party, and Rashtriya Ulama Council have taken the effort to launch a campaign to oppose a survey of madrasas that began in the state on Monday.

In various parts of Uttar Pradesh, these parties have significant influence over the Muslim community, despite their smaller presence.

Peace Party chief Dr. Mohammad Ayub said that party leaders and workers have launched an awareness campaign to educate the community about the government’s madrasa survey order. He noted that the plan aims to polarize Hindus and Muslims on the issue.

He said that the Uttar Pradesh government understands that people from the weaker sections of the Muslim community are unable to send their kids to regular schools. Through donations, madrasa management provides free education, food, and lodging to students. It is the constitutional responsibility of the government to provide free education to every child. As opposed to fulfilling its responsibilities, the government is trying to shut down madrasas.

Maulana Aamir Rashadi Madani, the national president of Rashtriya Ulama Council (RUC), said the survey of madrasas across the state had left the Muslim community uneasily.

Muslim organizations and bodies running madrasa should unite to oppose the state government’s order. The government’s plan to close madrasas is a conspiracy against the Muslim community, and we will have to develop a plan to fight it. he said.

Chief of the AIMIM Asaduddin Owaisi described the survey of madrasas as a “mini-NRC” and said the U.P. government was harassing the Muslim community. Shaukat Ali, president of the AIMIM state unit, is holding meetings in different districts to mobilize Muslim people and prepare the party cadre for the upcoming urban local bodies election.

The survey was started by the government of Uttar Pradesh on Monday. Three members of the government committee visiting madrasas to collect data on 12 different topics, including their funding source.
