Amidst the pandemic, the New Zealand government is facing protests from the farmers against the alleged unworkable regulations and unjustified costs.
Farmers Organize ‘Howl of a Protest’
As per the latest reports, tractors and farmers took to the streets of Auckland on Friday to protest against the increased interference of the New Zealand government. The “How of a Protest” witnessed thousands of farm vehicles like trucks, tractors, utes, and dogs covering the cities across the country.
In May, the New Zealand government announced their new rebate schemes. The aim was to lower the carbon-emitting cars more affordable for the Kiwis and will further see a fee placed on vehicles that emit higher-emission vehicles including the utes. It is a very commonly used vehicle for the farmers working and living in the rural areas of New Zealand.

The other regulations include farmers getting freshwater regulations, winter grazing rules, and indigenous biodiversity regulations. Even though the new rules issued by the government are believed to be with good intentions and for the betterment of the environment and lower carbon emissions. Farmers believe that they are too far from being pragmatic and implementing them would further add extra economic burden to the primary industry.
The protests are said to have erupted in 55 cities and towns across the country on Friday. During the protests, the farmers held banners which said, “No Farmers No Food”.
New Zealand Recorded 3.3 Percent Inflation In The Second Quarter of the Year
Reports suggest that in the past year, the primary industry and the red meat industry was soaring despite the pandemic and the lockdowns. The primary sector is believed to be crucial to New Zealand’s economy.
A decade record inflation of 3.3 percent increase in the second quarter of the year was issued by the government on the same day.
