NGT Tells Jagan Govt: CS to Face Jail If Illegal Irrigation Works Not Stopped

In a setback to the AP Government of Jagan Mohan Reddy, National Green Tribunal (NGT) today directed to stall illegal irrigation projects in the state.

Expressing serious concern at the violation of its orders, NGT has warned that it will send the Chief Secretary to jail if related works are not stalled.

The Telangana Government complained that AP violating norms to construct the projects and works are going on against NGT orders and without environmental clearances and nonsubmission of DPRs.

The NGT has warned that it will send Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary, Adithyanath Das to Jail for violation of its orders. The court gave serious warning after hearing a contempt petition filed by G Srinivas in this regard.

The green tribunal slammed the AP government of Jagan Reddy and the Chief Secretary Adithyanath Das for sheer violation of norms. How the AP Government violates its previous orders and continues the works without obtaining environmental clearance, the NGT asked.

The Green Tribunal expressed serious displeasure at the Jagan Government for violation of norms. NGT warned to issue orders sending the chief secretary to face jail if the irrigation projects’ works go on.

It may be said that the green tribunal already instructed the Jagan Government to stop the works related to the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation project and the Pothireddypadu project. Telangana state argues that it will lose its rightful share of waters if these projects are completed.

The green tribunal directed the AP government to stop the works and posted the case to July 12 for the next hearing.
