Nikhat Zareen Among Indian Athletes Granted Overseas Training Funding

Several of India’s top athletes, including the Olympic-bound trio of boxer Nikhat Zareen, long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, and table tennis player Manika Batra, have received approval for financial aid to facilitate their training abroad. The decision was made following a meeting convened by the Sports Ministry in New Delhi.

Under the Sports Ministry’s Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), boxers Nikhat, Preeti Pawar, Parveen Hooda, and Lovlina Borgohain are set to embark on a training camp in Turkey, accompanied by their coaches and a physiotherapist.

Meanwhile, wrestlers Sujeet (65kg), Deepak Punia (86kg), and Naveen (74kg) will journey to Russia with their sparring partners, coach, and physiotherapists in preparation for the upcoming Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament scheduled for this month.

This financial assistance underscores the government’s commitment to supporting India’s elite athletes as they strive for excellence on the international stage.
