No Covid-related deaths in the last 24 hours in 15 states and UTs in India

Coronavirus seems to be loosening its grip on the country as 15 Indian states and union territories have reported no death caused by covid-19 in the past 24 hours, according to the government’s statement today that stressed the diminishing effects of the disease in India.

The daily numbers too are reducing with each day and the country has witnessed a 55% decline in the average daily deaths since the last 5 weeks.

Moreover, 7 states and Union territories have reported no death due to covid in the last one week, the Union Health Ministry said. These include Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Arunachal Pradesh, Lakshadweep. Tripura, Andaman, and Nicobar, Nagaland and Mizoram.

As of now, 33 states and Union Territories have less than 5000 active cases in their region.  Apart from this, the daily fatality number per million people in India since the past one week has been one of the lowest when compared to the rest of the world, Niti Aayog’s VK Paul said.

“The number of cases (of Covid) is also falling. So that is good news. In the last 24 hours, no death was recorded in Delhi. So that is also good news,” said Mr. Paul.

Nevertheless, the need for precautions is still present as according to the serological survey, “over 70 percent of our population is still vulnerable”, he added.

The average national figure said that 25% of Indians have the covid antibodies. This is much lesser than the number obtained from cities like Mumbai and Delhi where the former showed 75%.

According to the most recent serological survey, Delhi is rapidly inching towards the development of herd immunity as one in two persons have covid antibodies, directing that these people had been infected at some time. At the completion of the survey, the total number of people with the disease were found to be more than 6.34 lakh.

The declining rate of fatalities is meeting a similar scenario in the daily new cases arena as the latter too is registering a decrease as is the figure showing the total active cases.

The decline in the daily surges and the fatality rate comes amid the vaccination drive started in the country 3 weeks back. People administered with the first dose of the covid-19 vaccine on January 16 are likely going to get the booster dose on February 13th to protect themselves against the virus.
