In a significant development, the police have apprehended a gang hailing from Northern India involved in the theft of money from ATMs. During the operation, law enforcement officials confiscated 34 ATM cards and Rs 15,000 in cash from the culprits.
The Inspector of Police for the One-Town region, Swamy, issued a statement, detailing the successful arrest made by the One-Town and CCS police. The apprehended gang comprises three individuals from the states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
The arrested individuals, identified as Waris from Haryana, Nishad Radheshyam, and Nishad Sanjay from Uttar Pradesh, were taken into custody by the police following a tip-off suggesting that they were involved in illicit cash withdrawals from an ATM located on Railway Station Road. It was also revealed that the gang had previously executed a similar theft operation at a bank ATM within the city, as confirmed by the Chief Inspector.

The gang’s modus operandi involved the opening of bank accounts in the names of individuals residing in various localities, including Piproli village in Haryana, Butpurthanda Jalala, Kurara Thana, Bhamili post, and Hamirpur in Uttar Pradesh. Subsequently, they would deposit sums ranging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 into each of these fraudulent accounts.
The criminals would then gain access to the ATM cards belonging to the account holders, enabling them to carry out their thefts. Their technique involved obstructing the cash’s exit from the ATM machine with their hands until only a minimal portion of the money was visible. They would retrieve the money after the ATM emitted two beeping sounds.
This method allowed them to withdraw cash without the ATM registering a successful transaction, which would result in the ATM user receiving a receipt indicating a failed transaction. Following this, the gang members would contact the bank’s customer care service to report the issue. Within a period of 15 days, the stolen cash would be discreetly credited back into their respective accounts, as explained by the Chief Inspector.
This successful operation signifies a major breakthrough in curbing ATM theft activities in the region, as the police continue to work diligently to maintain public safety and security.
