One dead and two former nurses listed as frontline worker for covid vaccine shot in UP

As the country gears up for ‘world’s biggest vaccination drive’, reports from Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh suggest that the list of frontline workers listed for receiving covid vaccine shot included three ineligible nurses.

The list of people for receiving a covid vaccine shot prepared by State Health Department for Dufferin Hospital in Ayodhya mentioned the names of a deceased nurse, one nurse who had retired and the other one who had resigned.

Health Minister of Uttar Pradesh Jai Pratap Singh has ordered a probe into the matter and asserted that suitable action will be taken against the officials responsible. As per the local officials, the names were inadvertently included in the list as the list was prepared three months back and had to be updated.

In the morning today, the country rejoiced as three trucks with the first batch of Serum Institute of India’s Oxford-Astrazenca vaccine were dispatched from the company’s manufacturing facility in Pune deployed with heavy security forces. The Government of India had formally placed a purchase order for 11 million doses of Covishield at a price of INR 200 per dose for the nationwide vaccination drive that will begin from January 16 onwards.

Around 30 crore frontline workers including health, police, civil, sanitation, and defense personnel are expected to get the Covid vaccine dose in the first phase of the vaccination drive. To facilitate the drive, health authorities have uploaded the data of essential workers on the Central Government’s portal.

The frontline workers in UP would be vaccinated at 852 centers across the state from January 16 onwards.  The second dry-run for Covid vaccination was conducted at the 1,500 centers in the state on Monday. Chief Minister of the state Yogi Adityanath himself inspected the dry-run at Lucknow’s Civic Hospital.
