Over 1,200 acres of land were reclaimed from industries by Telangana govt: KTR

Telangana Industries Minister KT Rama Rao said the State Government had reclaimed over 1,200 acres from different industries that had failed to fulfill land allotment requirements.

Azamabad Industrial Area (Termination and Regulation of Leases Amendment) Bill, 2022 was introduced by the Minister in the Assembly on Tuesday. According to the Minister, the industrial area in Hyderabad is spread across 136.4 acres.

Different industrial units in the area were granted leases by the Congress Government at the time. A total of 58 units were set up, of which 36 were original leaseholders and 22 were operating after title transfers.

There have been a few units operating and a few that have been shut down in the last 30 years. In cases where the units fail to meet the requirements, the State Government takes the lands back, he explained.

Azamabad Industrial Area terminated the existing leases or arrangements in the demised plots in the area. The decision was made to monetize the valuable lands due to the closure of many units and the interests of nearby residential constructions, he said.

As part of the Municipal Laws (Amendment) Bill, the Minister announced that the Government had decided to increase the number of co-option members from three to nine and the number of minorities from two to six in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

Bandarupally and Jevantharaopally gram panchayats will be merged with Mulugu Gram Panchayat to form Mulugu Municipality. In the same way, the name of Kyathanpally Municipality was changed to Ramakrishnapur Municipality.

Aside from this, the mandatory three-year period for passing a No Confidence Motion against a Chairperson or Vice Chairperson was getting completed for 129 ULBs.

As a result, existing Councilors or Corporators are gearing up to move a motion against the existing Chairman or Mayor, and the intention is usually to use it as a means of threatening the incumbents. It has been decided by the State Government to amend the Municipalities Act to extend it from three to four years.
