Palestine Re-Extends Emergency Decree Against Covid 19 Variants; Reports

Amidst the rising Covid 19 cases across the world, Palestine has extended their Coronavirus-related state of emergency to contain the spread.

Palestine Re-Issues Emergency Decree 

As per the latest reports, Palestine has extended a state of emergency amidst the rising Covid 19 crisis and the new variants. The decree was issued on Monday by President Mahmoud Abbas and is effective immediately. Reports suggest that it is to ensure that the government has enough power to combat the pandemic virus.

The state of emergency was first issued in March last year after the virus was first discovered in the Palestinian territories. Ever since then, the decree has been extended or re-declared every month.

At the same time, Health Minister Mai al-Kaila released a statement regarding the Covid situation in the Palestine territories. She said that she and her Ministry is taking all possible measures to prevent the spread of the new pandemic virus variants ever since it was first discovered in Brazil and India.

Al-Kaila said that the ministry has warned of the arrival of the deadly variants of the coronavirus. Following which, she asked the Palestinians to strictly take the necessary precautionary steps.

Palestine Sees Improvement in Covid Fatalities 

The Minister also noted that there has been a major drop in the number Covid 19 deaths. She said that there has been an improvement in the health situation in Palestine. Around 12 percent of the population has already been vaccinated.

She further said that Palestine is expected to receive a new batch of 500,000 doses of the Russian Covid 19 vaccine, Sputnik V soon. On Monday, the Health Ministry said they recorded 565 new Covid 19 infections with 11 deaths and 779 recoveries in the past 24 hours.

Overall, the Covid 19 cases in Palestine has been at 298,203 and the death toll stands at 3283.
