In a petition to the Chief Justice of India, a city-based lawyer asked him to pass directions to the Telangana Government to expedite and fasten the process of arresting Nupur Sharma forthwith for her blasphemous remarks against the Prophet Mohammed.
Khaja Aijazuddin, in his petition, stated there is an ‘ineptitude’ in the functioning of the Government of India, various state governments and more particularly the state of Telangana in handling the issue of derogatory and inflammatory remarks made by Nupur Sharma against the Prophet Mohammed at a TV debate conducted globally on Times Now TV.
Nupur Sharma used abusive language against the Prophet Mohammed, which insulted the feelings of millions of Muslims in India as well as billions of Muslims worldwide, the lawyer said.

“The Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is the messenger of Islam and Muslims follow his principles and teachings. The indiscipline or derogatory remarks towards the Prophet hurt the feelings of Muslims and are punishable under Indian law,” he added.
In accordance with the “Rule of Law”, it is incumbent on the part of the respective governments to ensure that those involved in any crime, especially the crime committed in the present case, are punished accordingly, the lawyer further said.

“Although, Hyderabad City Police filed a criminal investigation against Nupur Sharma in Crime/FIR No. 959/2022, on May 30, under IPC sections 153(A), 504, 505(2), & 506. Until today, the Hyderabad City Police has not taken steps to arrest the accused Nupur Sharma, which is crucial for maintaining communal harmony in India, or to say no attempts were made by the Hyderabad City Police, and finally to keep the FIR in cold storage without proceeding in accordance with the law,” said the lawyer in his petition.
An appeal was made by Khaja Aiajzuddin to the Chief Justice of India, to expedite and fasten the arrest of Nupur Sharma forthwith, to investigate thoroughly, file the charge sheet, and seek her conviction before the Competent Court of Law or to appoint a Special Court for a speedy and time-bound trial.
He said the CJ’s intervention will save India’s image across the globe and maintain communal harmony.
