People rejected BJP for its wrong policies, not defective campaign: Gudur

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy has ridiculed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s contention that BJP lost Delhi elections due to a defective campaign. He said Amit Shah should admit that his party has been facing rejection all over the country due to its wrong and divisive policies.

Narayana Reddy, in a media statement on Friday, alleged that Amit Shah was trying to divert people’s attention from the real issues by making giving misleading explanations on electoral losses. “People don’t judge political parties on their mode of campaign. They give their verdict based on the policies being implemented by the ruling party. Amit Shah should’ve admitted that BJP was rejected by the people of Delhi for bringing a divisive law on Citizenship. Instead of admitting that CAA has been rejected, BJP leaders are trying to give an impression that they lost for raising issues in an incorrect manner,” he said.

The Congress leader said that the BJP Government appears to be in a haste to bring contentious laws and make controversial moves so as to keep the attention of people to get diverted from real issues. “The BJP-led Assam government has reportedly lost the data collected for the implementation of state-wide National Register of Citizens (NRC). The Central Government had spent over Rs. 1600 crore to conduct the NRC in Assam on pilot basis. The data lost has badly damaged the credibility of NRC which is already facing widespread rejection all across the country. As the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah must have given an explanation for the NRC data goof up in Assam. However, the former BJP President is still trying to mislead people by presenting different theories on why BJP lost Delhi elections,” he said.

Instead of being apologetic for pushing the country’s economy into huge crisis, BJP Government is trying to find fault with the citizens. While Amit Shah is keeping the people distracted with his contradictory statements on CAA and NRC, Prime Minister Narender Modi is cursing Indians for not paying Income Tax properly. It may be true that only 1.5 crore out of 130 crore population pay Income Tax, but almost everyone pays GST or other taxes, directly or indirectly. Therefore, Income Tax cannot be treated as the only benchmark to define a tax payer. Almost 70% Indians pay taxes directly or indirectly through one way or the other. Therefore, instead of asking people to introspect, PM Modi and his team should do a serious introspection of their policies and approach towards economy,” he advised.

He said that BJP leaders have become habitual of targeting all sections of the society. “Sometimes they question the nationality of same people who elected them to power and now they are doubting the honesty of Indians who don’t pay Income Tax,” he said adding that BJP would continue to face rejection all across the country in future elections if it continues with its wrong policies.
