Police raid birthday party in Rachakonda; hookah pots, flavors seized

In the early hours of Tuesday, Rachakonda police raided a guest house at Abdullapurmet and allegedly caught 7 people smoking hookah and violating other laws.

There was loud music playing at the birthday party, which caused a nuisance in the surrounding area, according to police sources. Liquor had also been arranged by the organizers.

In addition to hookah pots and flavors, liquor bottles and other materials were seized from the scene. In order to find out who organized the event, police are working on it.

Increasing numbers of minors take up hookah in Hyderabad, tossing rules

Young people under 21 are becoming addicted to hookah, cigarettes, and drinking, resulting in major accidents. It is common for them to crowd clandestine hookah parlors in Sindhi Colony, Gachibowli, Tolichowki, Maredpally, and other areas of the city.

Hookahs were banned in Hyderabad in 2017 after parlors that were allowed to operate legally were found to be violating the law. Minors were not only allowed but they were also served alcohol.

A wide variety of hookah pots, flavors, coal, and everything else necessary for smoking hookah can be found openly. There is no requirement for sellers to check the ID cards of their buyers, regardless of their age.

There is a question authorities need to answer about the purpose behind banning hookahs when underage children can easily access them in their safe zones.

A high-level official said identity (ID) cards are hardly followed, in response to a question.

“Underage children are not only found in hookah outlets, but also in pan shops that sell hookah pots, flavors, and coal. It is not uncommon for such complaints to be filed every day. Doing checks everywhere daily is a herculean task, isn’t it? “When we receive complaints or conduct raids and catch sellers and consumers in the act, we catch them red-handed,” he explained.
