Possible Reshuffle in the All India Congress Committee

After the Delhi Assembly elections, speculations about major changes in the All India Congress Committee (AICC) have gained momentum, especially in light of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The party’s top leadership, after a long pause, has started considering the names of key leaders for potential organizational changes.

According to sources, the responsibilities of nearly half a dozen state in-charges may be altered, or their roles may be redefined. New appointments are expected in states such as Bihar, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Telangana, and Assam. All eyes are on Bihar’s state in-charge, Mohan Prakash, as the party closely evaluates its performance in Bihar during the Lok Sabha elections.

Similarly, speculations suggest that Jharkhand in-charge Ghulam Ahmed may be given a new role. Since he is also the leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Kashmir, he may be tasked with leading lawmakers in his home state.

According to internal party sources, about seven leaders are under consideration for key organizational positions. These include Bhupesh Baghel, Charanjit Singh Channi, B.K. Hariprasad, Harish Chaudhary, Meenakshi Natarajan, Krishna Allavaru, and Vijay Wadettiwar. Among them, Bhupesh Baghel is considered a strong contender for the position of General Secretary. Additionally, leaders like Meenakshi Natarajan, Sachin Rao, Ajay Kumar Lallu, and Vamshi Reddy may also be assigned new responsibilities.

The party has also reviewed the performance of its state units in Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, and Uttarakhand, which could result in significant changes.

A senior Congress leader revealed that these organizational changes were originally planned to be implemented after the Lok Sabha elections but were delayed due to various reasons. Now that the party leadership is focused on Bihar, the expected changes in the state unit will not only be politically significant but will also take into account caste balance and electoral performance.

Observers believe that the Bihar elections will be crucial for the Congress party, as it must not only fight for survival but also secure key seats, unlike its performance in Delhi. Furthermore, in states where the Congress is in power, public dissatisfaction with government decisions remains a growing concern.

It will be interesting to see how these proposed changes impact the Congress party’s strategy and performance in the coming months.
