Power Cuts Return to Haunt Telangana Residents

Despite claims of improvement by state-run power utilities, power outages have once again become a concern for residents of Telangana.

According to sources, the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) and Telangana State Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGNPDCL) recently submitted a report to the government, asserting a reduction in power supply interruptions and transformer failures.

The report states that TGNPDCL reduced power supply interruptions by up to 59.84% and transformer failures by 18.09% this year. Similarly, TGSPDCL reported a 43.90% decrease in supply interruptions and a 14.61% drop in transformer failures in 33 KV feeders within its jurisdiction.

Officials claim that despite power shortages in other states leading to declared power holidays, Telangana has maintained uninterrupted and quality power supply across all sectors, including domestic, industrial, and agricultural.

However, the ground reality contradicts these claims as residents, both urban and rural, face daily power cuts. The State government acknowledged long power outages at MGM Hospital in Warangal and a government hospital in Bhongir, ordering investigations into the incidents.

The social media handle of TSSPDCL is inundated with complaints from disgruntled customers, particularly from rural areas where power cuts are more severe, affecting farmers during peak hours.

Meanwhile, officials reported significant damage to infrastructure, with 8,486 electricity poles and 240 transformers affected by recent unseasonal rains and strong winds. Efforts are underway to restore services promptly, with power staff working tirelessly to address the situation.
