Pranab Mukherjee, former Indian President, dies at 84

Amid an unfortunate development, the former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, passed away at the age of 84 in Delhi’s hospital.

He was admitted to the Army’s Research and Referral Hospital on August 10th following the diagnosis of a brain clot. The former politician, who served the country from 2012-2017, was in a deep coma and had developed a lung infection during his stay at the hospital.

His son, Abhishek Mukherjee tweeted the news of his father’s demise on Twitter. He wrote, “With a Heavy Heart, this is to inform you that my father Shri #PranabMukherjee has just passed away in spite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital & prayers,duas & Prarthana from people throughout India! I thank all of You.”

He has kept everyone updated with his late father’s health conditions from time to time. He had also slammed rumors of his father’s death back on August 13th as news channels were circulating fake reports.

Earlier today, sources had said that former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee Pranab had gone into a septic shock. However, his son had tweeted saying that his vitals were stable and he is likely to get recovered soon.

The hospital has also said in a statement, “There is a decline in the medical condition of Pranab Mukherjee since yesterday. He is in septic shock due to his lung infection and is being managed by a team of specialists. He continues to be in a deep coma and on ventilator support.”

Mr. Pranab had caught on to the virus and tested to be covid-19 positive in the hospital. He had tweeted saying, “On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID-19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self-isolate and get tested for COVID-19.”

On August 26th, doctors had said that his “renal parameters are slightly deranged”.

After the news of his death, Twitter was filled with prayers from people wishing for his peaceful afterlife.

The former President was also honored in August 2019 with the greatest civilian award- the Bharat Ratna.
