In a significant move to improve transportation services, South Central Railway (SCR) has announced the commencement of 88 Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) services from January 1, 2025. These services will introduce new suburban routes and extended sections, aiming to streamline commuter travel in the region.
The new routes include the suburban section connecting Secunderabad to Medchal, Falaknuma to Umdanagar, and Ghatkesar to Lingampalli. These additions are expected to ease congestion and provide better connectivity for passengers traveling within the city and surrounding areas.
The railway has also revised the timings of these services, taking into account commuter schedules and the need to synchronize with the newly introduced Vande Bharat Trains, which were inaugurated recently. The changes are designed to ensure that passengers can seamlessly connect between MMTS and Vande Bharat services, providing greater convenience for travelers.

“The new MMTS Time Table of South Central Railway will come into effect from January 1, 2025, with a total of 88 MMTS services now operational,” an official notification stated. “These services include the extended suburban sections of Secunderabad – Medchal, Falaknuma – Umdanagar, and Ghatkesar – Lingampalli.”
According to the report by The Hindu, the revised MMTS services will be operational throughout the day, enhancing connectivity for commuters in the region.
In addition to these changes, the timings of various Express and Passenger trains originating from or passing through the Vijayawada Division have also been updated. The updates, which are part of an ongoing effort to improve the overall efficiency of train operations, will take effect from January 1, 2025. These changes are aimed at improving service delivery and minimizing delays across the network.
The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Vijayawada has shared a detailed list of the revised timings, urging passengers to check the updated schedules before planning their travel. “Several Express/Passenger trains’ arrival and departure timings have been revised within the Vijayawada Division jurisdiction,” the notification stated. “We kindly request our esteemed passengers to check the revised timings and services before planning their journeys.”
Passengers seeking information regarding the changes in the MMTS services or other train schedules can visit the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) or approach the station manager/enquiry counter at the relevant railway stations.
With the implementation of these changes, South Central Railway is expected to provide enhanced services, improving the travel experience for commuters while ensuring smoother operations across its extensive network.
