Rain wreaks havoc in parts of erstwhile Adilabad

A moderate rainstorm hit parts of erstwhile Adilabad district on Monday, causing farmers to suffer losses.

Nirmal district recorded an average rainfall of 84.5 mm. Rainfall in Laxmanachanda mandal was 141 mm, followed by 124 mm in Mamada mandal.

A total of 70 mm to 114 mm of rainfall was recorded in Kubeer, Sarangapur, Pembi, Khanapur, Mudhole, Dilawarpur, Nirmal, Basar Kaddampeddur, and Nirmal Rural mandals.

The average rainfall in the Adilabad district was 80.5 mm. It was the Neradigonda mandal that recorded the highest rainfall of 124 mm, followed by Bazarhatnoor, Boath, Ichoda, and Sirikonda mandals. From June 1 to September 12, the district received 1,428 mm of rain, compared with 941 mm of normal rainfall.

In Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Mancherial districts, the average rainfall was 69 mm and 59 mm, respectively. Over 100 mm of rainfall was recorded in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district’s Kooutala, Chintalamanepalli, Bejjur, Penchikalpet, and Dahegaon mandals. There was an excess rainfall of 68 percent and 60 percent in the two districts this monsoon.

Streams overflew a low-level bridge in Soan mandal of Nirmal district, affecting transportation between Madapur and Jafrapur villages. Heavy rains in upstream areas caused a stream to swell in Pethapenkur village in Kuntala mandal. Several remote villages in the Nirmal district remain disconnected from the mainstream, according to reports. At Basar, the Godavari river is swollen.

Rains in a few interior parts of the Adilabad district affected the connectivity of people living there. As a result of the downpours, farmers reported damage to standing cotton, soya, and red gram crops. To assess the crop damage and to extend compensation, they requested surveys from the authorities.

Along with this, heavy rain and gusty winds disrupted the power supply and damaged several houses in various villages in Beerpur mandal of Jagtial district over the last two days, according to sources.
