Raja Singh was arrested on Tuesday by the Hyderabad police just hours after a case against him was filed for allegedly offensive remarks against Prophet Muhammad.
A protest broke out in Hyderabad after the release of the offensive video, which forced the police to register charges against Raja Singh.
As part of the commissioner’s task force, a team of local police and the commissioner reached MLA’s house at Mangalhat and took him into custody. Among other sections, 153A and 295A of the Indian Penal Code were cited in a case booked at Dabeerpura and Shahinayatgunj police stations.
A senior police official in Hyderabad said the MLA was arrested for hate-mongering and would be brought to court soon. As a result of protests erupting against the BJP MLA, a large number of police have been deployed outside the Hyderabad police commissioner’s office, the Director General’s office at Lakdikapul, and the old police commissioner’s office at Purani Haveli, as well as other important locations in the city.
There is also a rapid action force along with a reserve component of the Telangana State Special Police, GreyHounds, etc., and police from neighboring districts.
Additionally, police pickets have been posted in the old city and in communally sensitive areas of Hyderabad.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Hyderabad police took into custody, several protesters. Several people protested outside the Hyderabad commissioner of the police office in Basheerbagh. Despite repeated attempts to disperse them, the police took more than 100 people into custody.
According to Hyderabad Police, BJP MLA Raja Singh was arrested on Tuesday for derogatory remarks he had made against the community. The MLA was charged with a criminal offense after protests continued at the Dabeerpura police station and also at the Hyderabad CP office.
During a recent show by stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui in Hyderabad, Singh allegedly made a video that was considered objectionable.
It is in this video that he speaks against members of a community, besides using foul language against Munawar, claiming that he has made blasphemous comedy in the past.
