Goshamahal BJP MLA T Raja Singh, who was suspended from the party in August, clarified on Monday that his comment was directed against the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) rather than the Muslim community, and called on the BJP party high command to revoke his suspension.
In response to a show cause notice issued by the BJP disciplinary committee, Raja Singh, who is currently lodged in the Cherlapally Central Prison after the Hyderabad City Police invoked the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against him, stated in a four-page reply to the committee that he had never intended to insult the Muslim community and that the comment he made was directed at AIMIM leaders rather than Muslims.
He claimed that the AIMIM had been targeting him for a long time and was attempting to implicate him in false cases. He also claimed that the State government had used the PD Act against him at the request of the AIMIM.
Raja Singh urged the BJP leadership to lift his suspension, saying he had been a disciplined party worker for decades and had followed party instructions with ‘utmost’ sincerity. He assured the party’s leadership that he would not do anything to bring disrespect to the party.
Raja Singh was detained under the act on August 25 for making blasphemous and hateful statements.
Raja Singh’s remarks about Prophet Mohammed sparked outrage in Hyderabad and Telangana, with many of the youth protesting against him. His remarks were made in retaliation to the state government allowing comedian Munawar Faruqui to perform at Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad.
He had threatened to disrupt the show but was stopped by the police.
On the night of August 22, Raja Singh’s derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad were posted on YouTube. The video has since been removed.
