Raja Singh’s wife seeks Governor Tamilisai’s intervention for husband’s release

T Usha Bai, the wife of Telangana MLA T Raja Singh, met with Governor Tamilisai Sounderarajan on Sunday and requested her intervention in getting him released from jail. Raja Singh is currently jailed in Cherlapally Central Prison after the State Government used the Preventive Detention (PD) Act to detain him.

Raja Singh, a BJP leader, was also suspended by his party after releasing a video in which he offended the religious sentiments of another community. Though he was initially arrested in connection with a case filed after releasing the video that sparked massive protests across Hyderabad, a local court immediately granted him bail, blaming the police for not following proper procedures.

He was then detained under the PD Act, citing several other cases against him. A rowdy sheeter from Mangalhat police station was called by the police.

The wife of the two-term legislator, who visited the governor with her sisters, called her husband’s detention illegal. Usha Bai claimed that the Hyderabad police were acting under government pressure against her husband, who had repeatedly questioned the government’s policies favoring one community.

She said, “Cases have been filed against every minor comment or statement made by my husband.  The government has accused my husband of breaking the law in numerous cases, but the Special Court for Elected Representatives has acquitted him, and a few more cases are still pending. “My husband is fighting for justice in a court of law.”

Usha Bai also claimed that the police never acted on hateful remarks made by other politicians. According to her, the government was unable to prove the allegations against her husband and has therefore taken a different approach to detain him. She asked the Governor to intervene and order her husband’s detention under the PD Act to be lifted as soon as possible.
