Rape survivor tied with ropes to attacker, paraded in Madhya Pradesh

Amid a harrowing ordeal, a 16-year-old rape survivor was tied with ropes and paraded publicly along with her attacker in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday. 

The obnoxious incident took place in a tribal-dominated region of Alirajpur district in the state. The girl was allegedly raped by a 21-year-old man who was tied to the victim and paraded after the crowd beat them both up.

A video has been circulating on social media showing the disturbing incident with the people around chanting slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ (Long Live Mother India) while carrying out the ordeal.  

After a massive outrage arose with the video getting viral, the police jumped into action and arrested 6 people till now, including the attacker.  

Insensitivity against rape survivors was witnessed evidently in the incident as the people beat the victim and her attacker and made them walk alongside each other in a village around 400 km away from Bhopal, MP’s capital.  

According to the reports, the family members of the rape survivor were also involved in the crime and forced her to parade with the accused in a bid to shame her for getting raped.  

The 16-year-old received the help of the cops when she was being paraded. As per the statement of sub-divisional officer of police Dilip Singh Bilwal, 2 cases have been lodged in the matter.  

“One of the cases was filed against the 21-year-old man who is accused of rape. Another FIR (first information report) was filed against family members of the girl and villagers for parading her in the village and beating her,” he said. 

He further disclosed that the accused was married and had 2 children. Various sections under the IPC (Indian Penal Code) and other provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have been filed against him after the victim registered an FIR.

Section 355 (Assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person), section 342 (wrongful confinement), section 294 (obscene act in public places), section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and others have been lodged against the family members of the rape survivor, cops added.
