“Results start to come in next week!”- Trump refuses to accept defeat, Pompeo backs him

Donald Trump hasn’t yet acknowledged the victory of Joe Biden in the US presidential elections of 2020 as he constantly claims that he will rule the US for his second term, literally defying the millions of votes the President-elect received.

Now, Trump has gone on record with an absurd statement in which he says that the “results will start to come in next week.” He was referring to the election results that actually got declared a week ago.

In his alternate world of reality, the votes are still getting counted and he apparently is winning the elections.

The President tweeted his claim saying, “WE WILL WIN! WE ARE MAKING BIG PROGRESS. RESULTS START TO COME IN NEXT WEEK. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

His refusal to accept the defeat and challenge the results has caused a growing mountain of issues in the White House.

After Trump filed lawsuits in the states where Biden won, many states rejected the suits as soon as they were registered, while the ones which haven’t given any order yet are not enough for Trump to win the presidency or overturn the results.

Since the results have been out in the open, Trump has rarely made any public appearances. He was seen golfing twice on the weekend after the election results, making them his only outdoor acts.

Once the results came in, he seems to have dropped his usual presidential intelligence meetings that are held every day. Except for the mention of his apparent victory and lawsuits, he has not spoken about anything at all, especially not covid-19 and the drastic surges it has made in the country. Along with that, his daily interviews with Fox news and conference sessions with journalists of the WH also seem to have been forgotten.

His engagement nowadays includes his tweets and retweeting of the comments that supportive ring-wing journalists of Fox News have made in his favour. The only prominent task he did post results was firing of Mark Esper, the defence secretary on Monday which came out quite shockingly, again through a tweet.

Traditionally, the President is supposed to give a tour of the White House to the President-elect. This is considered as an almost sacred act and has been followed since ages in the US’s history. Barack Obama had welcomed Trump the same way in 2016 when he got down the post to hand it over to Trump after his win.

However, by refusing to accept his defeat, Trump has not only snatched the tour right of the President-elect but also stopped him from gaining facilities, funds and other expertise. All of this technically comes gift wrapped to the elected President in order to help him settle himself in the White House prior to the start of his term.

The General Services Administration handles the handover of this aid to the incoming president, the head of which is Emily Murphy, selected in place by Trump.

The only other living Republican former president is George W. Bush and he duly wished Joe Biden for his win.

Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader of Congress, claimed that Trump’s act of challenging the elections in court was “100% within his rights”.

There is no surety however of how long will the supporters continue leaning onto the side of Trump and till when will Trump himself refuse to admit the results.

His attorney general, Bill Barr has even stepped up to approve investigations into “specific allegations” of fraud corresponding to the elections.

Barr added a warning that “specious, speculative, fanciful or far-fetched claims should not be a basis for initiating federal inquiries.”

Mark Pompeo, the Secretary of State, who is a part of the list of people not accepting Biden’s victory, weirdly promised the world that he will ensure there is a “smooth transition to a second administration of Trump”.

“The world should have every confidence that the transition necessary to make sure that the State Department is functional today… with the president who is in office on January 20 a minute after noon will be successful,” Pompeo said, referring to the date beginning the new term of the President-elect or Trump, in his case as he believes.

Joe Biden is due to start his term as the President of US from 20th January 2021.
