TPCC president A Revanth Reddy called the leasing of Outer Ring Road (ORR) the country’s biggest scam. In an interview with media persons at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday, Revanth Reddy alleged that the lease transaction involved a kickback of Rs 1,000 crore. Revanth Reddy has said that the ORR, which is expected to grow by 10% annually and generate at least Rs. 30,000 crores in revenues, has been leased to a Mumbai-based company for Rs. 7,380 crores.
He questioned the hidden agenda behind the leasing process, which was overseen by former Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and signed by senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar. Within six months of the current government stepping down, the next Congress government would review decisions made and those involved in the alleged extortion, including Minister KTR, Somesh Kumar, and Arvind Kumar, would face consequences, he said.
A probe would be ordered by the Congress party when it takes power to investigate the role of individuals involved, he said, and those in management may be imprisoned.
Revanth Reddy asked for clarification on how the ORR toll is collected, and whether tenders or nominations were used. In addition, he accused KTR and his associates of large-scale corruption, claiming they used the ORR to make money. He accused the BRS government of selling the ORR, which generated significant revenue, to the private sector.
He also questioned the BJP’s silence on the issue and demanded that its leaders respond.
According to the TPCC president, the previous Congress government spent Rs 6,696 crore to build the ORR to international standards, attracting investments to Telangana. He expressed his disappointment that the decision to lease the ORR would prevent people from using it, and he criticized the government for exploiting existing infrastructure as an investment.
Revanth Reddy stated that he would file complaints about the tender procedures with various investigating agencies, including the ED, CBI, and Central Vigilance. He also demanded that HMDA officials reveal who has been collecting tolls since 2018 and questioned the need to sell the ORR, which is vital to the people.
