Revanth Reddy Writes to KCR, Pleads to Solve Problems of Cotton, Chilli Farmers

TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy today wrote an open letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and urged him to solve the problems faced by cotton and chilli farmers in the State.

In his letter, the TPCC president told the Chief Minister that the cotton and chilli farmers were committing suicide after falling into debt trap. He said the farmers did not have proper agriculture policy and faced problems related to loan policy, crop procurement, spurious seeds and pesticide. He said he had witnessed the problems faced by the chilli and cotton farmers during his visit to Mahbubabad district. He told the CM that a total of 20 farmers committed suicides in the last two months in Mahbubabad district.

Revanth also told the Chief Minister that the NGOs like Human Rights Forum and Rythu Swarajya Vedika submitted reports to the State government on the suicides of the farmers. Stating that the farmers were incurring ₹1 lakh per acre as an investment for the cultivation of the cotton and chilli crops, he said every farmer had a debt of  ₹6 lakh to ₹12 lakh. He demanded that the CM pay an ex gratia of ₹25 lakh each to the family members of the farmers, who have committed suicides. He also demanded that the CM implement his poll promise of up to ₹1 lakh loan waiver to every farmer in the State.
