Samsung Overtakes Apple as Top Smartphone Manufacturer

Data from research firm IDC revealed a 10% decline in Apple’s smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2024, attributed to heightened competition from Android manufacturers vying for dominance. Meanwhile, global smartphone shipments saw a 7.8% increase to 289.4 million units during January-March, with Samsung surpassing Apple to claim the top position with a 20.8% market share.

Apple’s slide in sales follows a robust performance in the previous quarter, during which it briefly held the title of the world’s No.1 phone maker, surpassing Samsung.

However, Chinese brands like Huawei have since gained momentum, pushing Apple back to second place with a 17.3% market share.
