Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Arjun Reddy became a massive sensation upon its release nearly eight years ago, launching Vijay Deverakonda into stardom and creating a lasting impact in Telugu cinema. The film’s bold narrative and intense portrayal of love and heartbreak resonated with audiences, eventually being remade in Hindi as Kabir Singh, which also went on to become a huge success.
Though the film has been out for quite some time, director Sandeep recently opened up about his initial choice for the female lead during an event. According to Sandeep, he had originally intended to cast actress Sai Pallavi as the female lead. He revealed that he contacted a coordinator from Kerala to discuss the potential casting, explaining that the film would be a romantic drama.
Sandeep recalled the conversation with the coordinator, who asked, “How romantic?” He responded by describing it as more intense than the usual romantic content seen in Telugu cinema. However, the coordinator’s immediate response was a surprising one: “Forget about it. The girl won’t even wear sleeveless.”

Despite this early setback, the director expressed admiration for Sai Pallavi’s consistent approach to her career and image. “Eventually, actresses change over time, based on the opportunities they get. But Sai Pallavi is not changing at all. It is really a great thing,” Sandeep remarked. His comment highlighted how Sai Pallavi has remained true to her values and career choices, despite the evolution of the industry around her.
Sandeep’s reflection on the casting process offers a fascinating insight into how Arjun Reddy came together and shows the director’s deep respect for Sai Pallavi, whose steadfastness has been evident throughout her career. It also sheds light on the choices and challenges faced in the entertainment industry, where stars often face pressure to conform to expectations.
Although Arjun Reddy ultimately featured Shalini Pandey in the role, Sandeep’s revelation underscores the evolving nature of the film industry and the enduring appeal of authentic performances.
