The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has announced a comprehensive safety plan to ensure the quality and safety of food, medicine, and medical products provided to millions of pilgrims during the upcoming Hajj season. The initiative reflects the Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of pilgrims, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
In line with government directives, the SFDA will conduct extensive monitoring and inspections at air, land, and sea ports of entry, focusing on all products under its jurisdiction. Additionally, the authority will oversee food and pharmaceutical facilities and medical centers located in Makkah and Madinah, as well as temporary medical sites linked to Hajj affairs offices, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
Key areas of focus include air freight inspections at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, where products arriving from various Hajj offices around the world will be thoroughly checked.

The SFDA’s Hajj initiatives also encompass field studies and awareness workshops for staff working in approved food preparation kitchens, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. These efforts are being carried out in partnership with the municipalities of Makkah and Madinah.
To further support pilgrims, the authority will disseminate multilingual awareness messages and run informational programs on food and drug safety, ensuring that pilgrims are informed and protected throughout their spiritual journey.
The SFDA emphasized that these actions are part of its broader mission to provide top-tier regulatory services, strengthen cooperation with other government agencies, and solidify Saudi Arabia’s global leadership in crowd management and public health during major religious events.
