Scamster Impersonates Governor, Sends Messages To Journalists For Money

As per the latest reports, the Crime Branch of the Goa Police has begun a probe after an individual claimed to be the state’s Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai sent WhatsApp messages to a few journalists, mentioning urgent need of money by means of Google or Amazon Pay.

“The obscure individual seems to have imitated as the decent Governor on WhatsApp. A few messages have been sent to the journalists since Friday evening looking for cash. We are completing specialized investigation in view of the messages we have gotten to find the blamed,” a Crime Branch official said on Saturday.

On Friday evening, cell phones of a few journalists pinged, with the Governor’s presentation picture springing up on their screens, with an attentive “Hi”.

“At first when I saw the DP, I thought it was the Governor himself, since we have been in contact with the Raj Bhavan throughout recent days for true purposes,” Joel Afonso, Editor of The Goan, a nearby English day to day, informed media.

“Some other time when the individual talked about sending him cash through Amazon pay, I figured a Governor won’t go as far as this level. I conveyed the likely misrepresentation to the authorities at Raj Bhavan,” Afondo said.

Gerard D’Souza, who writes for The Hindustan Times from Goa, was likewise reached by a similar profile. “I was shocked to get a message from a WhatsApp profile with the Governor’s image asking about me… At first I thought it was a certified message given that the Governor is known to adore a cooperation with journalists.

In July last year, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s Facebook account also was cloned and demands for cash by means of UPI were sent to a few people across Goa.
