SCs entitled to quota in medical stores in Telangana

The State government is establishing a mechanism to implement a similar initiative for all medical stores located on the campuses of government hospitals after having awarded 16 percent of contracts related to sanitation, security, and diet at government hospitals to entrepreneurs from the SC community.

In a press conference on Tuesday, State Health Minister T Harish Rao announced that the State government was seriously considering implementing a similar mechanism for all medical shops in government hospitals in Telangana, after drawing lots for the selection of government hospitals that will be specifically reserved for SC entrepreneurs.

An increase in the number of beds per room

As a part of the efforts to improve sanitation, diet, and security, the State has recently increased per bed allocation from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,500 per month at an additional expenditure of Rs 325 crore.

“We have also increased diet charges for each hospital bed in government hospitals. I am encouraging young entrepreneurs from Dalit communities to take advantage of this golden opportunity,” said the Health Minister.

The State government had earlier decided to provide reservations for Scheduled Caste (SC) agencies in contracts that are related to nutrition and the implementation of Integrated Hospital Facility Management Services (IHFMS), which includes security, sanitation and diet of patients at government hospitals in Telangana.

Hospitals will be separated into two groups as part of these efforts, with Category A hospitals having fewer than 100 beds and Category B hospitals having more than 100 beds. There are 122 government hospitals with a bed capacity of fewer than 100 beds, of which 20 (or 16%) would be assigned to agencies controlled by SC people. There are 53 government hospitals with bed capacities ranging from 100 to 500 beds, of which 8 facilities (16%) would be set aside for agencies led by SC candidates.
