Hyderabad: Today, a Sensitization Workshop was organized by Tharuni NGO, in collaboration with British Deputy High Commission and Rachakonda Police for all the Police officials, She Team Members and Child Help Line staff in the District Police Office, Rachakonda Commissionerate, Bhongir.
Andrew Fleming, Deputy High Commissioner, British Deputy High Commission, Hyderabad speaking as a Chief Guest in the inaugural session said he was impressed with the initiatives taken up by Mahesh Bhagwat, IPS, in fighting women Trafficking in Yadadri District. He said this is a very important project for the High Commission and want to support the Telangana Government in curbing Trafficking. In his earlier stint, he worked in Africa and Ghana and was having a deep understanding on anti-trafficking.
Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda Mahesh Bhagwat, IPS, setting the agenda for the campaign said the police is enforcing the Law effectively in this region. Within a month more than 34 victims were rescued, 31 traffickers arrested and within them on 19 people, police initiated PD Act in recent operations of Yadgirigutta. More than 100 brothels were seized and closed by the orders of RDOs & MROs. But he said only enforcement will not help in curbing the menace. Hence, Rachakonda Police along with Tharuni NGO and British Deputy High Commission, Hyderabad has initiated this Awareness drive to bring all the stakeholders to one platform. He has given a challenge to the police officials and She Teams to rescue at least one child from trafficking and prosecute one Trafficker during this drive. He appreciated the support of Tharuni & High Commission and assured all his support for this campaign.
Dr Mamatha Raghuveer, Founder, Tharuni said that sensitising all the stakeholders and creating a common platform to work in convergence resulting in curbing the menace of trafficking is the main objective of this initiative. Tharuni is working since 18 years in preventing trafficking of girls in the State of Telangana.
Ms Nalini Raghuraman, Political Analyst, British Deputy High Commission, Hyderabad spoke about the strategies being used in this initiative. She said that She Teams will sensitise the students in schools & colleges and Police cultural Teams will sensitise communities. She also told that they will be sensitising Auto, truck drivers, Traffic police & Transport officials to identify the Traffickers in the society. The Nalgonda district Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Mr Nimmaiah congratulated Tharuni & Rachakonda Police for taking up this great initiative.
The program was attended by Ramachandra Reddy, DCP, Bhongir, Saleema, DCP, She Teams, Jitender Reddy, ACP, Bhongir and all Sub-inspectors of all police stations under Rachakonda Commissionerate along with Ram Mohan, Director, Help NGO, who trained the She Teams, Tharuni team Neeraja, Sameer and Ramesh Satyam.
