Shikhar Dhawan first Indian to hit Test century before lunch on Day 1

Bengaluru: Shikhar Dhawan joined a select band of players to score a century before lunch on the opening day of a test match when he made a brilliant 107 against Afghanistan in the historic one-off test match that began here on Thursday.

He struck an 87-ball century before being out just after lunch off the bowling of Yamin Ahmadzai.

With this, Dhawan also joined an elite list consisting of Australia’s Victor Trumper , Charlie Macartney and Don Bradman. Pakistan’s Majid Khan and David Warner are the other two players in the elite list.

Incidentally Hardik Pandya had scored a century before lunch against Sri Lanka hitting 108 at Pallekele in 2017.
