Six Female Players Represent Gujarat in Tokyo Olympics, Paralympics

With the hype of the upcoming Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, six females from Gujarat has qualified to play.

Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani Congratulates Players 

Maana Patel, 21 has qualified for the Olympics. She will be representing India in the 100 meters backstroke event. She currently holds 180 medals including 25 international, 72 national and 82 level achievements
On Friday, Gujarat Chief Minister took to Twitter to congratulate her on the selection.
“Heartiest congratulations to Maana Patel on her qualifying through Universality Quota for #Tokyo2020. Backstroke swimmer Maana Patel has become the first female and the third Indian swimmer to qualify for #Tokyo2020.”
Meanwhile, Ankita Raina has qualified for Tennis and Elavenil Valarivan for shooting. The other three females who will be representing India have qualified for the Paralympics. It includes Parul Parmar for badminton, Bhavina Patel for para table tennis and Sonal Patel for para tennis.
Gujarat represented the country in the Rome Olympics in 1960 (60 years ago). Govindrao Sawant played for the hockey team from India. And before him Shankarrao Thorat went to 1936 Olympics for wrestling.
The Tokyo Olympics commences from July 23.

Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina To Represent India in Women’s Doubles

As per the latest reports, Ankita Raina and Sania Mirza will be representing India in Women’s Double Tennis at the Tokyo Olympics. Sania Mirza is the first female to have represented India at three olympics and will be making her fourth appearance at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
However, for Ankita Raina, it’s her first Olympics entry.

Kiran Rijju, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports congratulated the Indian duo on Twitter.

Currently both Sania and Ankita are playing at Wimbledon. They both will be competing against each other in the first round of the Mixed Doubles on Friday.
