Soon, Check In Your Luggage from Anywhere in UAE When Flying from Dubai Airport

Passengers flying out of Dubai International Airport (DXB) may soon be able to check in their luggage from their homes, hotels, or any location across the UAE, thanks to a new initiative aiming to streamline the travel experience.

Ciaran O’Sullivan, DVP Airline Services UAE Airport Operations at Dnata, announced during The Airport Show in Dubai that DXB is pushing to have at least 25% of all luggage checked in off-site, significantly reducing congestion at the airport. “We handled 24 million bags this quarter alone, and we’re on track to surpass 100 million this year,” he said. “If one in five bags could be checked in outside the airport, it would dramatically improve the passenger experience.”

To meet this goal, DXB plans to expand its partnership with Dubz, a baggage service provider that allows travellers to check in and receive their boarding passes from homes or hotels. Dubz, which launched in 2016 and was later acquired by Dnata, provides on-demand luggage collection and delivery services across Dubai.

O’Sullivan emphasized the importance of scaling the service to make it more cost-effective, suggesting collaboration with entities like the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), metro systems, holiday companies, and hotels to make off-site check-in a widely accessible option.

John Dyett, Vice President of Baggage Service Delivery at DXB, underlined how baggage handling is key to customer satisfaction. “Baggage often defines a passenger’s perception of an airport. We must focus on steps that minimize mishandling and improve predictability,” he said, noting that DXB handles up to 300,000 bags a day during peak times.

Experts at the show also highlighted the growing role of technology. Dr Heba Kurdi from MIT spoke about the adoption of AI in baggage systems, including smart sorting and digital simulations to test operations in advance.

Amel Chadli, president of Gulf Countries at Schneider Electric, called DXB’s initiative “forward-thinking.” He noted that similar efforts at other global airports have shown that automation, energy efficiency, and advanced distribution can significantly enhance passenger experience and operational flow.

Dubai Airport’s vision to enable baggage check-in from anywhere in the city reflects its commitment to innovation, passenger comfort, and world-class service as air travel continues to evolve.
