South Asia’s largest bio-research facility to be housed in Hyderabad

G Kishan Reddy, minister for culture and tourism, announced the opening of a medical research facility in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Mansukh Mandviya, Union Health Minister, will inaugurate this facility on April 1, which will be the largest and most technologically advanced one in South Asia.

National Animal Research Facility for Biomedical Research, built on 100 acres in Hyderabad’s genome valley at a cost of around Rs 400 crore, has been built as part of the Centre’s focus on health and family welfare. The many institutes in the facility have been constructed to meet industrial standards, he said.

Kishan Reddy said that research will be conducted to develop new medicines for people and to ensure that vaccines are fast and easy to obtain. The facility will combine biotechnology, biopharma and bio-medical research. He added that this is an incredibly significant step for the state, country, and for humankind.

Several countries have contributed technology to make the facility state-of-the-art, according to the union minister. This facility will be up to international standards regarding animal rearing, as all animals will be treated well and are vital for research.

Additionally, the minister spoke about the ongoing Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav, calling it a rare opportunity to be hosting the event.

“It is an honour for me to bring the festival to Telugu states. Every year it will be held in a different state, so we might not be able to host again for many years.” He expressed that everyone should not miss the opportunity and that the events should be attended. The festival is currently taking place in Warangal.
