A SpiceJet passenger has called out the airline for “sheer mismanagement” after passengers were made to wait for two hours inside an aircraft due to dense fog at Delhi airport. The incident occurred on a Friday morning flight from Delhi to Kolkata, where passengers boarded the aircraft despite foreseen delays caused by adverse weather conditions.
Pratyush Rawat, a passenger on flight SG263, took to social media platform X to express his frustration, claiming he and others, including infants and elderly passengers, had been sitting in the aircraft since 6 a.m. In a post shared at 8 a.m., Rawat questioned why the airline allowed boarding to proceed when it was evident that the flight could not take off due to low visibility.
“Boarded SG263 Delhi-Kolkata at 6 am, but still grounded after 2 hrs due to dense fog. There are infants & elderly onboard—this delay was foreseeable and is sheer poor planning. Airlines should ensure ATC clearance before boarding,” he wrote.

Delhi NCR woke up to a thick blanket of fog on Friday morning, reducing visibility to nearly zero. The national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 6 degrees Celsius, further complicating travel operations. According to the news agency PTI, over 100 flights were delayed at Delhi airport due to dense fog disrupting air traffic.
The SpiceJet flight was one of the many affected by the weather conditions. While such delays are common during the winter months, passengers criticized the airline’s handling of the situation, particularly its decision to board passengers despite the foreseeable delay.
The incident highlights the challenges faced by airlines during extreme weather conditions and raises questions about communication and contingency planning to minimize passenger inconvenience. Neither SpiceJet nor the Delhi airport authorities have commented on the incident as of now.
As foggy conditions are expected to persist, passengers are advised to check flight schedules and prepare for potential delays.
