Starbucks writes ISIS on Muslim woman cup: case registered

Minnesota: A Muslim woman said she received a drink from Target Starbucks barista written “ISIS” instead of her name.

Aisha, 19 years old, who wears a hijab said to CNN that she felt singled out for her religious beliefs after seeing “ISIS” on her Starbucks cup.

ISIS stands for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria it is a militant group and a formerly unrecognized proto-state that follows a fundamentalist.

Aishah has filed a case of discrimination against Target and it is represented by CAIR-MN (Council on American-Islamic Relations Minnesota).

Aisha said “The moment I saw it, I was overwhelmed with a lot of emotions”, I felt belittled and so humiliated. This is a word that shatters the Muslim reputation all over the world. I cannot believe that in this day and age, something like this can be considered acceptable. It isn’t okay”.

This incident took place on the 1st of July at st. Paul-Midway Target Starbucks. Aisha said she was wearing a face mask by following the guidelines of Coronavirus and had repeated her name to the barista.

“There is absolutely no way she could have heard it as ISIS. Aishah is not an unknown name and I repeated it multiple times,” Aisha said.

In defense, the employee said that she had not heard her name correctly. After requesting to talk to the barista’s supervisor her concerns were dismissed and she was given a new drink with a gift voucher of 25$.
