State Government Abolishes Grading System for SSC Exams Starting 2024-25

In a significant move, the State government has decided to do away with the grading system for SSC (Secondary School Certificate) Public Examinations, starting from the 2024-25 academic year. Students will now receive 100 percent of their marks based solely on their performance in external assessments, eliminating internal assessments from the evaluation process.

Currently, the SSC exams are conducted with an 80:20 ratio, where external exams account for 80 marks and internal assessments for 20 marks. With the new system, students will be evaluated entirely through external exams.

The government has also discontinued the continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) system, which was designed to assess the overall development of students at schools. Principal Secretary for Education, Burra Venkatesham, issued an official memo on Thursday approving the changes. According to the memo, the decision was made after careful consideration of a report submitted by the School Education Department.

“Permission is accorded to the director to follow the new pattern of SSC Public Exams by awarding marks instead of grades and allocating 100 percent marks for external assessments without any internal assessment marks starting from the academic year 2024-25,” the memo stated.

The Director of School Education, EV Narasimha Reddy, has been instructed to implement the new system and take all necessary actions to ensure a smooth transition.

This reform aims to simplify the evaluation process and provide students with a clearer understanding of their academic performance. However, it also shifts the entire focus of assessments to external exams, emphasizing the importance of these tests in determining students’ final scores.
